Coverage: Everything covered in the instructor's lecture notes. Lorenz's systems will not be tested.
Format: Similar to all my other exams (Part A - about 20~40% of short/conceptual questions, Part B - about 60~80% of long/structured questions)

Unlike the midterm, both Part A and Part B will be answered on papers.

Tips for review:

Understand the concepts clearly and completely.
Review homework problems thoroughly, and learn why they are done in the way as in the solution --- don't just read the solution superficially (this course is about analysis, not past-paper analysis). Perhaps some tricks could be useful in the actual exam problems.
Understand the proofs that we went through. Do not recite them, but understand them. At least you should be able to see where the hypotheses were used in the proof. Also, some ideas could be helpful in solving some exam problems.

Rules and Logistics:

Things to prepare before the exam:
- Blank papers, or a tablet device with GoodNotes / Notability
  (Note: For tablet users: sync your GoodNotes/Notability file in real time on iCloud, so that if your tablet breaks down during the exam, you don't have to write up everything again. You are recommended to install a desktop version of GoodNotes as well to retrieve those backup files.)
- A scanner, or a phone with a scanning app that can output PDF (e.g. CamScanner)
  Practice using your scanning app well before the exam.
- A camera -- it must be ON during the exam to verify your identity. Virtual background can be used only if it interprets your face image accurately.
The exam will be open-notes. You can look at my lecture notes, your own notes, and any books about ODEs and other subjects. You can also surf the internet. Only results proved or discussed during the lectures or tutorials can be directly used. Problems will be designed so that it is better if you answer based on our course references rather than wasting your time on searching in the internet.
Communication with any person other than the instructor and TA is strictly prohibited. It is a serious violation of the honor code. Posting questions in any online forum or social media (including MathStackExchange, MathOverflow, Facebook, LIHKG, HKGolden, Goop, Zhihu, Quora) is considered as "communication" and is therefore strictly prohibited.
During the exam, instructor and TA will randomly select students, and temporarily assign them in a private breakout room. The student will be asked to show their answer sheets through camera.
Students who need to take a toilet break should first inform the instructor through a private message in Zoom. Instructor and TA may assign you to a private breakout room, and ask you to show your answer sheets through the camera before and/or after the toilet break.
After the exam, instructor and TA will conduct interviews on some randomly selected students to verify the authenticity of the submitted work.

Makeup Exam policy:

For all EARLY exams approved by the instructor, the same (or almost the same) exam paper will be used.
For all make-up exams AFTER the regular seating, a DIFFERENT exam paper will always be used, regardless of the reason you are absent from the exam. It includes sick leave with a doctor's certificate. There is no guaranteed that the level of difficulty will be exactly the same as the regular seating.
